March 13 – 1 1/16 Miles – Oaklawn Park – Rebel Stakes Grade II (review)

On March 13, at the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes, Lookin At Lucky made his debut race in the three-year-old division. For the first time the two-year-old champion colt was also racing on dirt. It wouldn’t end up being a problem for him, as he overcame being checked down the backside to win by a head over Noble’s Promise.

After breaking from post 2, Lookin At Lucky settled in near the back early in the Rebel. He was forced to check after bumping with Noble’s Promise, then moving out down the backside and heading into the final turn. Lookin At Lucky was undeterred, however, and began to pass horses. In the end with his sixth win in seven races, it was Lookin At Lucky.

Noble’s Promise would finish immediately behind Lookin At Lucky as the race marked the third consecutive time. Noble’s Promise second to Lookin At Lucky’s first at both the Grade 1 CachCall Futurity Stakes and Grade 2 Rebel Stakes and finished third to Lookin At Lucky’s second at the Grade 1 Breeder’s Cup Juvenile.

Lookin At Lucky (Garrett Gomez), Noble’s Promise (Robby Albarado), Dublin (Corey Nakatani), Uh Oh Bango (Glenn Corbett), Cardiff Giant (Christian Santiago-reyes), Pleasant Storm (Jon Kenton Court), and Royal Express (Perry Compton) is the order of finishers of the seven horses (and jockeys) who participated in the race.

In Hot Springs, Arkansas, at Oaklawn Park racetrack, The Rebel is held annually in March. It is raced on a dirt track that is 1 1/16 miles and it is open to three-year-olds. The purse is $300,000. With the first being the Southwest Stakes and the third being the Arkansas Derby, It is the second leg of the Oaklawn three-year-old stakes program.

Big Challenge for American Lion

One of the favorites that is ready and geared to race with the best of them this year is Triple Crown prospect American Lion. The only two time winner of the 1 1/4 – mile Breeders’ Cup Classic is his sire, Tiznow, and his son seems to have got this racing skill from American Lion. American Lion is considered one of the online betting favorites to win the Kentucky Derby in 2010.

WinStar Farm and the Dr. William Lockridge bred American Lion, horse betting favorite. He was trained by Eoin Harty and comes out of the Storm Cat mare Storm Tide. He is mounted by Julien Leparoux, who was the 2009 Eclipse winning jockey. His first three races were on synthetic tracks, and his debut race he was the runner up.

The seven furlong Hollywood Prevue was won by him in November where the race favorite was upset by him on the final furlong of the race. The victory was obtained by him in that $100,000 venue and then a late charge was held off at the Get My Fix venue in the final stretch. He has been a fierce competitor in races since then and has a chance to be a classic candidate for this next year.

The next big challenge for American Lion is the Triple Crown as he gains more recognition in the racing world. It will be a testament to his great lineage and great trainers if he is able to distinguish himself in the Triple Crown line.

Some intense strength workouts have gone through American Lion, the horse betting icon by trainer Eoin Harty, and it is looked to be ready for the remainder of the racing season.

Sports Betting: Orlando at Miami

With less than 20 games remaining in the NBA season, the competition for the 2010 playoffs is heating up. The game between the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat on Thursday will be significant for both teams, for very different reasons.

The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM at the American Airlines Arena with local and national broadcasting on FSN Florida, TNT, and WDBO/WONQ radio.
With a record of 46-20 as of the second week of march, the Orlando Magic is the second best team in the Eastern Conference with a confident eye on the playoffs. The Magic have won their first six games of March, and are confident to continue this success as they face Washington, Charlotte, and San Antonio before clashing with the Miami Heat.

With just over 30 wins by early March, the Miami Heat find themselves fighting hard for a shot at the playoffs. The Heat will have to face Chicago, Philadelphia, and San Antonio before hosting the Magic.

Despite having the worst standings, the Heat won two of the last three games against the Magic. The game on March 18 will be the last match up between the two teams. For Orlando, the game will be all about prestige and revenge. For the Heat, it will be about trying to win a much needed game to keep the playoffs hopes alive.

There is a lot of hype and excitement for the last NBA Florida derby game. The big question remains how well will Orlando’s Dwight Howard, Vince Carter, and Rashard Lewis perform against Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat. The truth is that each team has an equal shot at winning the game. At this point, you can throw out any statistics and expect any result.

MLS Players Still Working on Agreement

The players union and the MLS are still waiting on a collective bargaining agreement.

It is apparent that no deal has been made even though they met in Washington and discussed different agreements. Since the two parties did not meet this Tuesday and the deadline is coming up quickly, this could lead to a possible soccer strike.  Here are few notes on the progress of the talks so far. Betting online on soccer is always available.

Negotiations thrive on last minute pressure and small windows of opportunity are the first thing to note. The differing parties start compromising where many of these kinds of talks go down to the last minute.  This does not mean that agreements always come before the deadline, so there is still a chance that a work stoppage could happen.

The players union needs to either make a deal or get ready for a long strike are the facts.  Over the next two days, the pressure is on the union to be strong and resolved.  If they choose to make a deal they need to make the MLS give up some meaningful ground somewhere along the lines.

The union needs to be prepared to have a lengthy strike and not budge, if no collective bargaining agreement can be reached. This will be done until MLS decides to finally give in somewhere.  Anything less than this and the players union will be in trouble for future agreements and bargains that are to be reached. As the news spread, punters made a dash for their computers to get their bets in with their online sports books. Word was out that the financially troubled Weymouth Football Club was going to field their youth team against Rushden & Diamonds.

It’s being reported that more than £1 million was paid out after heavy betting action came in on Weymouth losing this match…and lose it they did. The rumour was in fact true and the home side cashed big tickets in one of the largest non-league Football Betting coups.

It all started when the entire team made the decision to go on strike due to not being paid so far this season and that there wouldn’t be any medical insurance for the match. That resulted in the club being forced to start the Weymouth teenage team.

Bookmakers didn’t know what to make of the sudden spike in volume for what would normally be a relatively obscure betting event. They immediately were forced to cut the odds as the money poured in and some even suspended the betting entirely.

Punters were said to be racing from one bookmaker to another and getting all they could down at their online bookmakers as word of the strike leaked out.

The obvious thought was that a team of 17 year olds would have no chance. And that proved to be right as they were drubbed 9-0 and all those who wagered against Weymouth cashed their tickets.

One bookmaker said “Normally £30,000 to £40,000 would be paid out on a match like this across the whole industry. But we paid out in the region of £100,000 and we are 20 per cent of the industry.”

Steve Palmer, deputy sports editor at the Racing Post, said that the match had become “the centre of the betting universe” before the game.

“Nonleague football is one of the few sports where punters can get an edge on the bookmakers,” he said. “They can have superior knowledge and the bookmakers can get caught with their trousers down.”

Can you open an online betting or gambling site in the US and have it be legal?

Online betting sites I found were all “offshore” in places such as Malta. Why? Could you open one in the US?

What are good sports you can start in your late teens?

I’m 17 and have played basketball and volleyball. I’ve also done some martial arts. None of the sports I have done so far have really been activities that I love. I go to a 5A high school so I can’t just walk on to a school team. Do you have any suggestions for sports I can try?
